Valença do Minho
We have been several times, it is one of our favourite places. The last time we were there was 2019, so it took six years to return. But we finally made it.….
Yesterday we went to Valenca do Minho. It is about 2 kilometres over the border in Portugal. It is a Medieval Fortress town on the river Miño (in Portuguese Minho).
And it is very beautiful.
The place we live I always like to call the “end of the world”. People who come to visit us, definitely have to know where to go or will get lost. But in reality we do not live at the end of the world. Even though we do live in the middle of nowhere, we are close by Panton, Escairon, Monforte de Lemos, Ourense, and the motorways to everywhere (Lugo, Santiago, Coruña….and Portugal….) are not far away.
Valenca do Minho is about a 120 kilometres drive. Even though it is very touristic, it is very pleasant and relaxing. With shops where the famous Portuguese linen and cork is sold, but also with lots of little souvenirs stores and restaurants. You can have a cup of coffee and a very nice lunch. We always go for the “Cabra do Forno” (goat in the oven with potatoes and vegetables), it is a typical Portuguese dish and very, very delicious. This time we also went for a caramel desert, and I am very sure we will do that again!
