Another year added!!!

And of course we had “el apagon” , the “total blackout”

Yes I know, I am repeating myself and very proud of it too!!!
Today we are married for 27 years, and to celebrate that we´re going to have a nice cup of coffee in Monforte de Lemos and enjoy the day. Because my birthday was last Friday and we went out for lunch, we want to do something different today. The sun is shining and it will be 20 degrees. What more do we want?

Of those 27 years we´ve spent the last 17 years here in Vilar. In the early days we had a lot of small black-outs when we had lots of rain, or a storm, or when it was very hot. Some of the black outs have taken over 24 hours. But during the years the have improved the electricity-net and it was a lot better. Regularly the power goes of and on again within a matter of seconds, but for that we use UPS (batteries) so that the power stays on for the important things like the pellet stove and the router so the internet keeps working).
Last week Monday I went out for lunch with a neighbour of ours to Monforte de Lemos. We do that on occasion. We entered Monforte and the traffic lights were off, the are never off. But….we went on not thinking about it any further. We arrived at the bar and asked for a cup of coffee….not possible, the power was off all over the country the girl said. I looked at her and laughed, yes…right…..
So after a nice Fanta and a tapas I looked online at the newspaper…and indeed… there was a blackout all over the peninsula. Everybody at the bar was having a good time, there was no sign of any panic. I guess everybody went home after their lunches. School was still on. Everything was sort of normal.

Fortunately the weather was nice so we did not need heating which does not work without electricity. Since we cook on gas we had no problem preparing dinner. We always have an abundance of candles in the house, so no problem with the light either. Candlelight is still more romantic then electric light......
At 1.52 hours tuesday morning the power was restored, pretty early comparing with the rest of Galicia.
It was an experience... lets hope it does not become routine…..
